I have never been one to go into a typical gym and workout. For me, I just found the whole process pretty boring. I have always been very competitive in sports and even competed, and was ranked at a high level in tennis. Over the last several years after experiencing some injuries my activity level in these sports dropped. However, I still had the competitive desire in me. It was after I attended the 2015 Northwest CrossFit regionals that I knew that I found what I was looking for. CrossFit had the activity and the competition that I wanted to be a part of. After joining a couple local gyms and not getting the coaching or the workouts that I was after, I found RCF CrossFit. From the moment I walked into the gym, coach Loe was inviting and showed me around and explained the program. My first class was the next day and I have never looked back. Loe does an excellent job with the coaching and programming and takes the time to correct my form. The community at RCF CrossFit is unlike any other gym that I have been to and really feels like a second family. My wife has since joined RCF CrossFit and is lifting weights that she said that she would never do. My kids have also shown an interest in CrossFit all because of the example that their parents have set.

I was hooked after the first week with RCF Tacoma. Loe, Nathan, and Will understand proper form and CrossFit technique. Their instructing style is a great combination of humor while pushing you to work harder, completing movements you did not think possible. Classes move fast, and the energy in the room is contagious. Renton CrossFit brings a balance to my life with time and energy efficiency. I have an action packed schedule on a day to day basis and finding time to plan my workouts then the time to step foot in a gym has proven to be trying. With Renton CrossFit, I am in and out in no more than an hour and acquire a better workout than hitting the gym on my own. Having a workout designed for you beforehand and Coach Linh there to instruct you makes staying healthy and active that much more simple and gratifying. In all, I love the progress that I’m making as I’m at an all-time high with my strength and endurance and can’t wait to see the final product!
By the way, Linh is a great coach and very welcoming. He will not go boot camp status on you (or else I’d be out the door!) He’s willing to modify workouts for individuals if needed and kindly corrects your form if you’re doing the exercise wrong; he even roots you on till the very end. In fewer words, he holds your hand throughout the workouts he designed while ensuring it will kick your a**!

I remember the day when I walked through the doors of RCF for the first time. Being an endurance athlete, with no experience with weight lifting made me unsure and absolutely terrified about joining something that seemed so intense and competitive. After one foundation class I knew that this was unlike any other gym I had ever been too. There was no judgement, complete acceptance, so much to learn, and the friendliest coaches you could ever meet. I was smitten. Flash forward a little over a year and I am stronger, faster, more confident, and still just as eager to learn and improve.

This gym’s motto “Better Than Yesterday” is the very essence of RCF CrossFit. Every workout, person that goes, and high five after makes you stronger and truly better than the previous workout. I have seen myself do things I never thought I would ever do in a million years because of this gym! The workouts are designed and formatted to give you a full body workout, endurance training, as well as strength. It has also boosted my endurance performance through the roof and has made me a better athlete overall. Everyone thinks of CrossFit as a super crazy intense hardcore workout that only the fittest people can do, some people are afraid to try it because they don’t want others to see them fail or see how weak they are. Some people are intimidated and they think they should train first before they try CrossFit. The truth is, this is how i felt the first time and I’m sure I can speak for the majority, but Renton CrossFit is so much more than just any gym, any class, or any training program. Here you’ll find that everyone is on different levels of athletic abilities and different goals but with the same intentions of getting fit. Regardless of everyone’s level of fitness, everyone is respectful of one another and nobody judges you. I love the sense of belonging. I am surrounded with people who care, who motivate me, who are there alongside me working hard. We help each other because we are a family. We all share the same pains and struggles but at the end of the WOD (CrossFit Workout of the Day) you feel a sense of pride knowing that you are one step closer to getting better. I love that Coach Linh pushes you, because that extra push makes a hell of a difference in making you stronger. He gets on you if your form is off or if you’re going too fast or you’re getting lazy. It helps remind me that this is not a race and to focus on the moves rather than rushing through the workout. It is a competition with yourself, not others. Every day is different. Coach Linh keeps me on my toes and surprises me by adding variety and teaching new workout routines to challenge me. There’s never a dull moment. You will whine and cry, maybe throw up but you’ll thank Coach Linh when you look back and realize that you’ve reached your goals and you’re a brand new person. Coach Linh is very knowledgeable and is dedicated to help you. After coming to Renton CrossFit it has become an addiction and my new passion. I’ve been inspired to be my best. I started CrossFit a little over 2 months ago and I love it! I heard about CrossFit years ago but was too intimidated to try it. I have always been a runner but after having my third child a year ago I felt stuck. I wasn’t building speed or muscle. I also had a hard time losing that last 5 pounds and felt flabby. I was getting bored and frustrated. At the same time of feeling this way I saw a Facebook post offering a free trial Crossfit class at RCF. I decided to give it a try, why not? It can’t hurt to try right? Oh, it hurt! I walked in freaking out in the inside. I was a complete beginner with weights and strength training. I couldn’t do 1 real push-up. Burpees were my enemy. I wanted to puke, but Coach Linh was very encouraging and informative. I signed up that same day determined to get fit. I can now say that I am addicted! The workouts are challenging and intense, but quick. Something different everyday. After a month of CrossFit, people started noticing and asking what I have been doing. I felt stronger. I have noticed definition in my arms, legs, thighs, and abs. OMG! I have abs! After 3 C-sections, I didn’t think it was ever possible. I also ran a half marathon recently and beat my previous time by 7 minutes! That last 5 pounds are still there but my body has changed, my clothes fit better, my waist got smaller. No more muffin top!! I have muscles now. I am in the best shape of my life and I am only a couple months into it. I am excited to see more changes my body will endure in the months/years to come. Coach Linh is awesome! I started Crossfit as an overweight 50 year old about one year ago. He was great at modifying movements and WODs for me so I could do them but always while pushing me to challenge myself. He is very educated in correct movements and watches me like a hawk always correcting my form during the WOD so I don’t get hurt. I am now 40 pounds lighter and able to lift heavy stuff and in the best shape of my life! I wouldn’t be where I am now without the support and encouragement of Coach Linh. Thank you, Coach! You rock!
